Our Story

Based in South Africa, Rooted in Community

The W Foundation was established to bridge the divide between potential and opportunity. While our operations are coordinated from the commercial hub of Sandton, Johannesburg, our heart beats in the townships and underprivileged communities where need is greatest.

We believe that every young person in South Africa — regardless of socio-economic background — deserves access to education, entrepreneurial support, and the basic dignity of food and shelter. Through strategic fundraising, corporate partnerships, and targeted grant cycles, we deliver real, measurable change.

Our Health Initiative

Ending AIDS by 2030: The Battle Against TB and HIV

South Africa bears the highest HIV and TB burden in Africa. Despite decades of intervention by countless organisations, infection rates remain critically high. The W Foundation takes a different approach: we only fund interventions that undergo a strict selection process, ensuring every rand creates measurable impact.

The History of the Crisis

Since the early 1990s, South Africa has faced the world's largest HIV epidemic. Despite massive global funding and the efforts of organisations such as the Global Fund, PEPFAR, and numerous NGOs, the country continues to report over 450,000 new HIV infections annually. TB remains the leading cause of death among people living with HIV, with over 300,000 TB cases reported each year. Many well-intentioned interventions failed due to poor targeting, lack of community ownership, and insufficient monitoring — leaving South Africa ranked number one in Africa for disease burden.

Our Strict Selection Process

We do not fund every good idea. Every intervention we support must pass a rigorous evaluation covering: evidence-based methodology, measurable outcomes, community-led implementation, financial transparency, and scalability. Only programmes that demonstrate a clear path to reducing infection rates and improving treatment adherence receive our funding. This disciplined approach ensures maximum impact per rand invested. Targeted Interventions

Our health funding focuses on high-impact areas: community-based HIV testing and counselling, TB screening in townships, adherence support for antiretroviral therapy, and prevention programmes targeting youth in underprivileged communities. We partner with local clinics and community health workers to deliver services where they are needed most — Soweto, Alexandra, and other high-burden areas across Gauteng and beyond.
